MARINA DEL REY, Calif. -- 5G Wireless (OTCBB:FGWC - News) announced today that it has documented a long distance Wi-Fi shot of 15 miles at a throughput of 4 Mbps upload and download speed. The shot was completed this last weekend, in a competitive Wi-Fi shootout at the Defcon convention in Las Vegas, Nev. There were many participants with both commercial-grade and homemade entries in a variety of categories at Defcon's first annual Wi-Fi shootout.

"Given recent breakthroughs we've made in transmitting long distances and the commercial readiness of our product, we chose to enter the commercial enhanced power category," stated Brian Corty, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for 5G Wireless. "Some of our competitors, like Vivato and YDI, were simply not able to compete with us on distance and throughput."

"Our products operate within the full legal limits of the FCC and we entered the competition with production products that are in deployment today and are not just one-of-a-kind hand made. It was important for us to show not only the distance of the connection, but the outstanding data rate we were able to achieve in a 15 mile shot," stated Jerry Dix, CEO of 5G Wireless.

The combination of distance and data rate that 5G achieved at Defcon far surpassed the performance of all other competitors. For the technical details of the results, see www.5gwireless.com/wifishootout.htm.

The company was recently profiled by BusinessWeek Online and 802.11 Planet, "The Source for Wi-Fi Business and Technology." In the piece entitled "Long Distance Wi-Fi," (www.80211planet.com/columns/article.php/2191841) Mr. Edward Hold, a wireless analyst with Current Analysis in Sterling, Va., maintains that this breakthrough "could considerably change the nature of the Wi-Fi market."
