SAN FRANCISCO--Yipes Communications, Inc., the first national provider of fully scalable bandwidth for business applications, today announced service in the greater Boston area. Yipes' network will connect businesses to each other and to the Internet at speeds up to 1 gigabit per second over its light-speed network.

Yipes is the leading managed optical IP network provider, using pervasive Ethernet technology to offer simpler, faster and cheaper service than traditional providers. Customers can order bandwidth-on-demand in 1 Mbps increments. With this kind of granular bandwidth, Yipes customers pay only for what they need. As it rolls out service across the country, Yipes is busting the regional bandwidth bottleneck between corporate LANs and cross-country fiber networks, driving a new generation of data-intensive applications.

"Boston-area businesses are as hungry as any in the country for bandwidth to meet the growing needs of e-commerce, Web applications and inter-office communications," said Beth Little Tyebjee, Vice President, Customer & Product at Yipes. "We see a huge market for our innovative services among the high-tech, financial services, legal, higher education, real estate and other industries for which Boston is famous. Internet and applications service providers will also find our network unmatched in its capabilities."

"Boston is a hot, hot market for Yipes thanks to the sheer number of high-tech companies that have established themselves in Massachusetts these past few years," said Andrew Cray, Senior Analyst at the Boston-based Aberdeen Group. "The dot-com startups, the professional services firms, and the rest of the high-tech pack on I-495 are exactly the types of companies that need the gigabits of bandwidth that Yipes provides. It's especially fitting that Massachusetts is one of the first places to get these high-speed fiber services, given the area's instrumental role in developing optical networking equipment."

Yipes' network will be available in downtown Boston early in the second quarter and will quickly extend to the greater Boston suburbs, including the noted high-tech corridors of Routes 128 and 495. Yipes' services are also available today in suburban San Francisco, Los Angeles and Denver. Yipes plans to serve most major cities coast-to-coast by the end of this year.
