Xtellus Acquires SpectraSwitch IP

MORRIS PLAINS, N.J. -- Xtellus, a maker of dynamic optical modules and components for reconfigurable optical networks, announced today that it has acquired the intellectual property assets of SpectraSwitch.

SpectraSwitch raised over $36M and developed an innovative line of optical components based on liquid crystal that include switches, variable optical attenuators and tunable filters. These devices complement Xtellus’ own product line of optical modules like its Dynamic Blocker Equalizer wavelength blocker and Dynamic Gain Equalizer that are also based on liquid crystal. Liquid crystal has no moving parts and is the preferred technology for dynamic optical modules and components based on its proven reliability and insensitivity to shock and vibration during operation.
