Zytec founder Larry Matthews joins Sorrento Networks' board of directors; shareholders ratify BDO Seidman as independent auditors

SAN DIEGO -- Sorrento Networks (Nasdaq: FIBR - News), a leading supplier of intelligent optical networking solutions for metro and regional applications, today announced that Mr. Larry Matthews has joined its board of directors.Mr. Matthews is a respected businessman with over 35 years experience with high technology firms through periods of aggressive revenue and corporate growth. Mr. Matthews was a co-founder of Zytec Corporation, a manufacturer of custom designed power supplies for the electronics industry. He served as an officer and director of Zytec, which grew from a start-up operation to a public company with revenues exceeding $250 million annually during his tenure. In 1992 Zytec won the National Baldridge Quality Award. In 1997, Zytec merged with Computer Products Corporation to form Artesyn Technologies (ATSN, Nasdaq). Mr. Matthews currently serves on Artesyn's board as a director. He also serves on the board of Veritec, Inc. (VRTC.OB OTCBB), a seller of microprocessor-based encoding and decoding systems products. Mr. Matthews holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Iowa State University, and serves on the boards of several privately held companies.Separately, Sorrento announced the successful completion of its fiscal year 2002 annual shareholder meeting held on Wednesday, August 28, 2002. At that meeting, shareholders overwhelmingly elected the Company's board of directors and ratified the appointment of BDO Seidman, LLP, as independent auditors. The board now consists of Mr. Phillip Arneson (board chairman), Mr. Donne Fisher, Mr. Robert Hibbard, Mr. Larry Matthews, and Mr. Gary Parsons. After the shareholder meeting, the Company hosted an open house for shareholders to talk with executives, tour the headquarters facilities, and view demonstrations of the Company's products, including those of subsidiary Meret Optical Communications.Sorrento Networks Corp.
