Motorola names Ron Sommer, former CEO of Deutsche Telekom, to its board of directors

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT - News) today announced that Ron Sommer, former chief executive officer of Deutsche Telekom, has been elected to its board of directors, effective immediately.

"Ron Sommer brings a wealth of international experience to the board and to Motorola," said Ed Zander, Motorola chairman and chief executive officer. "He has worked in telecommunications, consumer electronics and computing in Europe, North America and Asia." "The board is delighted Ron Sommer is joining us," said John Pepper, chairman of the board's governance and nominating committee. "He will bring to the board outstanding business experience, proven leadership and international acumen."

Sommer, 54, led Deutsche Telekom from 1995 to 2002 and significantly contributed to its turnaround. The German firm ranks as Europe's largest telecommunications company and as one of the world's leading telecommunications and information technology service providers.
