Telefónica Unveils Global e-health Unit

Spanish giant aiming to use converging technologies to decentralise clinical processes and increase remote access to services

MADRID -- Telefónica presented today its new Global e-health Unit, as well as its strategyfor the healthcare sector, where it aims to become a benchmark and major player in the healthcare ofthe future through the creation of quality products and services based on information andcommunications technologies (ICTs), which will contribute towards making a new, sustainable andefficient healthcare model where the patient is the main focus for the entire system.

The event, held in the company’s Madrid headquarters in Las Tablas, took place during the e-health IWorkshops,organised by Telefónica and was officially opened by Trinidad Jiménez, Spain’s Minister ofHealth, and the Chairman of Telefónica, César Alierta.

Telefónica is proposing to the healthcare sector the decentralisation of clinical processes, integratedservice networks, and ubiquitous and remote access to these services, which will increase efficiency andmodernise the sector.

During his presentation, César Alierta explained that “this global unit has a transversal character, andalready has local units in Spain, Europe and Latin America, composed of professionals which define thestrategy and planning of services and their industrialisation, operation and support. It aims to become astandard bearer in the areas of products, pilot projects and know-how.”
