LONDON -- BT today announced the signature of a global managed networked IT services contract with Anglo American, one of the world’s largest diversified mining companies. The contract covers all Anglo American’s networking requirements at several hundred locations around the world and is valued at approximately USD 220 million over the next 5 years.

BT will be deploying its BT Connect portfolio of “intelligent” networking solutions to meet Anglo American’s requirements in 15 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe, including locations in remote mining areas. These will be provided using a number of technologies, such as Ethernet, MPLS, satellite and microwave access.

To maximise the network performance and help prioritise Anglo American’s business critical applications, the BT Connect Applications service will be deployed at 65 locations around the world.

The contract includes global internet access, with a secure remote access solution for mobile workers also part of the service.

BT will also be deploying its One Voice converged communications platform, pooling all Anglo American voice services onto a single platform to deliver substantial savings, simplify management and enable collaborative services such as IP Telephony (IPT) to be provided.
