LONDON -- RiverSoft (LSE: RSFT.L), the network intelligence company, today launched a new versions of RiverSoft Network Management Operating System (NMOS) and Fault Manager, introducing support for Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS). MPLS is a standards-approved technology that increases network traffic speed and manageability. Available immediately, RiverSoft's new advanced management extension for MPLS includes connectivity assurance, service views and correlation of MPLS-specific alerts. These new features build on RiverSoft's mission to help large enterprises and service providers increase their network visibility and to recover hidden economic value from existing network assets. The MPLS Advanced Management Extension autodiscovers the existence and connectivity of MPLS VPNs. It also carries out root-cause analysis of faults in MPLS networks and correlates physical faults and any brown-out conditions with MPLS specific alerts. In addition to support for MPLS, RiverSoft has introduced an advanced management extension for ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode), allowing visibility of the setup of dynamically created circuits between network points. Glenn O'Donnell, Program Director of Service Management Strategies for META Group said: "Advanced network services such as MPLS are finally forcing users to address management immediately upon deployment of the service. Configuration management is necessary for these technologies because automated controls and capability discovery are inherent to their design and central to their proper use. MPLS remains a technology with few management choices. This automation demand will accelerate through 2002 and 2003 as enterprises and service providers ramp up their use of these technologies."
