STOCKHOLM -- Proximion Fiber Systems AB together with its Indian partner Eagle Photonics, today announced the orders from the two Indian universities, Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bangalore and Government Science College, Raipur, for WISTOM Optical Layer Monitors.

WISTOM's unique optical performance monitoring capabilities allow it to detect, locate, and isolate faults quickly in optical networks. It is available as a standalone or embedded unit and is based on a proprietary, extremely fast scanning filter, containing no moving parts, which is used to scan through the optical C or L band. Together with WISTOM Monitor, Proximon's advanced operations software; Network Operators will remotely access each monitoring system and thereby get a complete picture of their optical layer status.

Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bangalore and Government Science College, Raipur, will use WISTOM as a tool in advanced optical education and research.

"Since DWDM-networks are getting more and more advanced, the importance of optical monitoring is increasing. Our aim is to prepare our students to play a significant role in the development of advanced optical networking in the future. WISTOM will be a powerful tool to show what is required by optical networks today and tomorrow" says professor B. Majumdar of Government science college, Raipur.

"Our WISTOM system is designed to meet the requirements from the most demanding optical networking applications. The procurement of WISTOM by Indian universities clearly proves the Indian ambition to be in the forefront of optical networking in the future" says Stefan Ekman, CEO of Proximion.
