HANOVER, Germany -- DOKOM21, a regional German carrier based in Dortmund has deployed C/DWDM from Transmode, a leading provider of Optical Networking Solutions in its new Backbone Network. The agreement has been signed between DOKOM21, Transmode and the systems integrator ITM.

DOKOM21's new next generation optical backbone network includes interconnection of several local exchanges in the Dortmund area as well as development of the network in the wider region. The first backbone nodes will become operational starting now.

The carrier decided to use WDM technology (Wavelength Division Multiplexing), which makes it possible to fully utilise of the inherent capacity of optical fibre. In addition WDM makes it possible to carry a number of different services such as Gbit Ethernet, Fibre Channel and ESCON at the same time and therefore offers the necessary flexibility, which DOKOM21 required.

"The decision to use Transmode is strategic in nature" commented Frank Dettmann, who is responsible for the DOKOM21 transport network system development. " It has to do with the technological basis of our future network, and we are delighted to be able to build an upwardly compatible, scalable and very flexible network with Transmode's TS- and TM- series which will underpin our future growth".
