STOCKHOLM -- Transmode, a leading supplier of optical networking solutions, today announced that it has been awarded a major contract by Teracom to supply network infrastructure for a high capacity optical ring in Sweden. The network will carry HDTV and other valued-added services.

Teracom, a longstanding customer, of Transmode, distributes radio and TV to households nationwide for its broadcast customers. Teracom required the network to cope with an enormous increase in traffic due to the extra number of HDTV channels and growth in other value-added services. The new optical ring provides transmission between Stockholm, Malmö, Gothenberg and other major centres. It supports 2.5G and 10G transmission end-to-end today and 40/100G in the future. The network will complement Teracom's existing, mainly microwave based, infrastructure.

"After a competitive bid, we chose to award the contract to Transmode for three reasons: modularity, flexibility and total cost," said Peo Gaasvik, CTO at Teracom. "By simple "plug and play" additions we have the possibility of upgrading the network at any time to add new functionality. We are also very pleased with the level of support we have had from Transmode over the years," he continued.
