RICHARDSON, Texas -- Fujitsu, a leading provider of business, information technology, and communications solutions, announced today that Canadian telecommunications corporation TELUS has selected Fujitsu FLASHWAVE® Packet Optical Networking Platforms (Packet ONPs) for its next-generation converged Packet/TDM optical network. This network will enable next-generation IP, Ethernet and optical services and create a scalable infrastructure that will encourage development and use of new multimedia applications by its business and residential customers.

TELUS has begun deployment of the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 9500 and FLASHWAVE 4100 ES Packet ONPs. Network planning, management, and professional services support are being provided by the complete line of Fujitsu NETSMART® software solutions and Network Life Cycle Services.

“Our selection of Fujitsu packet optical networking platforms is part of our strategy to create a fully converged packet optical network throughout Canada, and place our customers at the forefront of broadband capabilities,” said Zouheir Mansourati, vice president of technology strategy for TELUS. “The Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP combines the functionality of Connection-oriented Ethernet and SONET/SDH with the flexibility of a ROADM in a single shelf. This combination enables faster time to market, provides greatly expanded capacity for video and wireless applications, and lowers the cost of delivering next-generation and legacy services.”
