STOCKHOLM -- Syntune AB, a developer of innovative single-chip tunable lasers and transmitters, today announced the availability of the S3600, an MSA compliant Integrable Tunable Laser Assembly (ITLA). The S3600 is a full band tunable assembly in a compact, standardized form factor designed for incorporation into a 300-pin transponder or DWDM line card. The S3600 fully meets the OIF MSA that details the communication protocol, electrical and mechanical interface, power supply, as well as optical specifications for use in telecommunications equipment operating in the C- or L-band.

Syntune’s patented monolithic tunable laser design minimizes size, power consumption and cost while still allowing the fastest possible tuning speeds. The S3600 operates between -5 and 75 degrees Celsius with a maximum power consumption of less than 4.5 Watt, and includes additional features such as SBS suppression dither, TxTrace, off-grid tuning and 'in-operation' adjustable transmit output power. Fault detection and intervention are provided along with wavelength, temperature, bias and power monitors and alarms.

Products utilizing the S3600’s wide tunability are an effective replacement for all fixed wavelength WDM solutions employed in current telecom systems. “It is clear that the operators are looking for flexibility in their networks to meet current and future bandwidth requirements,” said Patrik Evaldsson, CEO of Syntune. “The S3600 not only meets all the current network requirements, but will also accommodate the agile networks of the future.”
