SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J. -- Radiant Communications announced the release of the Radiant Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC) Modules, a family of duplex SC connector transceivers engineered to enable broadband operators to more cost effectively deliver Gigabit Ethernet applications. In addition to supporting quality serial optical data communications, Radiant’s GBIC Modules facilitate remote monitoring and diagnostics by reporting transmission errors, performance statistics and packets.

Radiant’s new series includes a 1.25 gigabits per second (Gbps) single-mode unit, as well as 1310 nm, 1550 nm, multimode, CWDM and DWDM modules. The 1550 nm and CWDM transceivers reach distances up to 70 kilometers (km). Each module in the series has been rigorously tested to guarantee compatibility with Cisco networking gear as well as other leading manufacturers’ standard network equipment.

The Radiant GBIC transceiver consists of a transmitter optical subassembly, a receiver optical subassembly and an electrical subassembly housed in a rugged, metal casing. The units are compliant with IEEE-802.3z specifications for Gigabit Ethernet at 1.25 Gbps and ANSI specifications for Fiber Channel applications at 1.06 Gbps Eye Safety.
