OTTAWA -- Enablence Technologies Inc. (“Enablence” or the “Company”) (TSX-V: ENA), a leading supplier of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) equipment for triple-play residential and business services and optical components and subsystems for access, metro and long-haul markets, is showcasing the latest advances of its Components and Subsystems Division, including new tunable optical filter array and photodiode products, at OFC/NFOEC 2010, the world’s largest optical communications and networking event taking place in San Diego from March 23 to 25.

Through its Optical Components and Subsystems Division, Enablence serves a global network of 120 system and subsystem developers, using its proprietary Planar Lightwave Circuit (PLC) technology to integrate multiple components on a single optical chip, dramatically reducing footprint and cost. Enablence provides products for telecom and datacom that are part of all major networks worldwide in access, metro and long haul. Enablence also delivers solutions for a range of non-telecom markets such as test and measurement instrumentation, biomedical, optical interconnects, and aerospace and defense.

A recent highlight for the Division was the announcement that it is working with Intel to provide Enablence’s dual wavelength 10 Gigabit per second (Gb/s) photodiodes for Light Peak – Intel’s high speed optical interconnect for PCs. Intel requires a high speed, dual wavelength photodiode with a large aperture, adhering to a set of stringent specifications. With Enablence’s long standing reputation to quality and ability to customize its products to fit customer needs, Intel selected Enablence as one if its suppliers for the program.

Enablence will be unveiling two new products at OFC/NFOEC that demonstrate its continued leadership in the market:

Tunable Optical Filter Array: This tunable bandpass filter array is an integrated optical and electronic module ideal for directionless ROADM add and drop applications when combined with Enablence’s state-of-the-art multicast switch product line. System designers can achieve directionless, colorless and contentionless ROADM nodes at lower per port cost. Its unique design also allows designers to fully utilize the potential of tunable lasers and have truly agile optical networks with flexible wavelength allocation and no need to pre-plan wavelengths. More information can be found on the product data sheet.

Side Illuminated Low Entry Monitor Photodiode: This photodiode features an angled facet and a large optical area for monitoring the optical output of edge-emitting lasers that are mounted up-side down. Thanks to its unique angled side facet, a bulky and expensive “wrap-around” submount is not required. The photodiode is optimized for monitoring Fabry-Perot or distributed feedback lasers used in single-mode data and telecom applications, as well as pump lasers used in erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs). More information can be found on the product data sheet.
