Apogee Marks Milestone

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Apogee Photonics, supplier of the industry's broadest line of 10 Gb/s laser sources for the communications industry, today announced that its Laser Integrated Modulator(R) (LIM) family of products has achieved more than 150 million field hours with zero field returns. This corresponds to a FIT (Failure-in-Time) rate of <15, setting an industry standard for component reliability. The Apogee Photonics LIM product family offers the highest reliability on the market and enables the shortest lead time in the industry for high-performance 10 Gb/s transmitters.

Apogee Photonics is widely recognized for its leading-edge 10 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s photonics technology. The company has manufactured its LIM architecture to reduce size, cut power consumption and lower overall system costs through higher density packaging and optoelectronic integration. Apogee's LIM product offers a versatile platform that provides customers with the highest output power, the widest dispersion tolerance and the longest transmission distance compared with other EML solutions.

The Telcordia-qualified LIM platform, based on EAMP(R) technology, incorporates integrated Indium Phosphide (InP) lasers, modulators and optical amplifiers in a standard 7-pin EML-compatible package with inter-chip isolated coupling. The LIM architecture allows OEM and module manufacturers to adopt a standardized platform approach at the systems level, which greatly reduces the risks associated with new technology introduction and provides significant development cost savings.
