MILAN, Italy -- Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications networks for operators around the world, today announced that the upgrade of Telecom Italia's Nautilus Ltd ("MedNautilus") DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) submarine network has been completed one month ahead of schedule. The joint venture established with Global Marine Systems Limited worked together with Mednautilus to bring the project to fruition.

The upgrade of transmission capacity allows up to 640 Gigabit per fibre pair and transmission rates of between 2.5G and 10G per second.

The network upgrade is designed to help Mednautilus expand its transmission capacity, ready for future ultra-broadband service deployments. Huawei responded quickly to the customer's requirements, offering an advanced submarine WDM equipment-OptiX BWS 1600S solution, designed to effectively and smoothly integrate the existing supplier's system and to reduce MedNautilus' total costs.

Mr Ding Yun, president of Huawei's Network Product Line and Board Member of Huawei Marine said, "It is our pleasure to cooperate with Mednautilus on this project. By combining cutting edge technologies with our expertise in optical networks, Huawei Marine is committed to providing innovative and leading end-to-end solutions for our customers."
