SHREWSBURY, N.J., and MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- Internet Photonics Inc. has been established to develop next-generation solutions that will enable the cost-effective rollout of carrier-grade Optical Ethernet networks. Transport products from Internet Photonics will at last bring carrier-grade features to Ethernet so service providers can quickly and simply deliver profitable new services in metro networks at a cost significantly lower than current solutions. Internet Photonics leverages technology and intellectual property from Bell Labs in developing Optical Ethernet transport platforms with a compelling economic model that will set new cost standards for reducing capital and operating expenses. These platforms will streamline and accelerate service provisioning while offering dramatic size, footprint, power consumption, and capacity advantages over current solutions. “Our solutions can be deployed side-by-side with existing optical infrastructure and can deliver initial investment savings of up to 70% over traditional SONET-based solutions without carriers having to replace, upgrade, or change existing equipment,” said Gregory Koss, the President and CEO of Internet PhotonicsThe Company’s founding technical team hailed from Bell Labs, which also provided equipment, technology, designs, and intellectual property to help launch the Company. Internet Photonics owns or licenses nine pending patents on carrier-grade Optical Ethernet transport and related technologies and is the first company to break current price barriers with carrier-class Optical Ethernet products that offer non-disruptive integration into legacy SONET networks. Sprout Group, the venture capital affiliate of Credit Suisse First Boston Corporation, led the Company’s first round of financing. AT&T is also an equity holder in the Company.
