Onetta Shipping 'Smart' Amplifiers

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Onetta Inc., (www.onetta.com), an emerging leader in the optical networking industry, announced today the creation of a new optical networking product category: Intelligent Optical Engines (IOEs), with the release of two “smart” optical amplifiers. The new amplifiers are designed to carry and intelligently manage signals over long-haul and ultra-long-haul networks, bringing cost savings, flexibility and a new level of control to optical network service providers. The company is now shipping product to customers, including PhotonEx Corp., a developer of ultra-fast optical systems for telecommunications networks.

“PhotonEx is partnering with innovative optical component and subsystem suppliers such as Onetta to develop the next-generation optical core,” said Dr. Katherine Hall, co-founder and CTO of PhotonEx. "Onetta's advanced understanding of transient control, which is built into its new optical amplifiers, is a key enabler of our industry-leading 40 Gbps backbone line speeds. Onetta’s emphasis on intelligent optical engines also advances our own commitment to wed speed and capacity with traffic control and management. Building intelligence into the dynamic voice and data networks of the future will deliver tremendous value to service providers and carriers - a value that will ultimately be reflected in significant operational savings and increased sources of revenue."
