CAMBRIDGE, U.K. -- ip.access today announced they are working with NTL as a technology partner to explore the potential of Low Power GSM for fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) solutions in the light of the forthcoming opportunity presented by UK telecoms regulator Ofcom. Integrating low power GSM coverage from ip.access picocells with the existing NTL business services creates the opportunity to provide the convenience of mobility at competitive landline prices. NTL and ip.access will demonstrate the solution at the NTL press day on Friday 10 February 2006.

Ofcom's impending spectrum auction which will release licenses to use a 3.3MHz slice of spectrum no longer designated as the GSM / DECT guard band for low power use. ip.access' picocells are ideally suited to this application because their output power matches the proposed EIRP (equivalent isotropically radiated power) limit of 23 dBm per carrier in the licence.

Kevin Baughan, Director of Network Strategy, NTL, commented, "Given the availability of innovative low-power technology such as ip.access' IP-backhauled picocells, we believe there is great potential from the impending spectrum auction. We are therefore exploring the opportunity for NTL to offer new integrated solutions to our business customers."

Mark Pittick, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, ip.access, added, "Our nanoGSM picocell technology plays a vital role in satisfying businesses' growing appetite for complete mobility. NTL has recognised the capabilities of nanoGSM in working with us to develop a cost-effective and convenient solution."

ip.access' nanoGSM range of wireless infrastructure products deliver coverage and capacity in difficult-to-reach areas, enabling enhanced service coverage and increased Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) for Mobile Network Operators, Service Providers and MVNOs.
