NTL Explores GSM Opening

CAMBRIDGE, U.K. -- ip.access today announced they are working with NTL as a technology partner to explore the potential of Low Power GSM for fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) solutions in the light of the forthcoming opportunity presented by UK telecoms regulator Ofcom. Integrating low power GSM coverage from ip.access picocells with the existing NTL business services creates the opportunity to provide the convenience of mobility at competitive landline prices. NTL and ip.access will demonstrate the solution at the NTL press day on Friday 10 February 2006.

Ofcom's impending spectrum auction which will release licenses to use a 3.3MHz slice of spectrum no longer designated as the GSM / DECT guard band for low power use. ip.access' picocells are ideally suited to this application because their output power matches the proposed EIRP (equivalent isotropically radiated power) limit of 23 dBm per carrier in the licence.
