11:00 AM -- Load up the catamaran, momma!

If you're looking for a fun-filled and informative family outing this weekend, you need look no further than Wellington, New Zealand (as if any place were further than Wellington, New Zealand). The festive gala began today, according to Radio New Zealand:

"The William Davidson conference celebrates the 125th anniversary of the first export shipment of frozen lamb from New Zealand in 1882."

Just thought you'd want to know.

re: New Zealand Gone Wild
Nah! Wellington's not far from anywhere. It's everywhere else that's far from Wellington!

Typical Kiwis! If you go and look at the RNZ site, you'll see they blat on about the "SS Dunedin" carrying the first consignment of frozen lamb to Britain in 1882. Well, a quick look at the 8d stamp commemorating the 75th anniversay will reveal that she was actually a 3-masted full-rigged ship! The only steam around was the donkey engine they no doubt used to run the freezer.

Fair go, RNZ probably don't actually know what "SS" means ("steamship", in case anyone's looking).

So, is philately with sheep still legal in NZ?
And did they commemorate the first boatload of mint jelly?
