4:40 PM -- Today on Contentinople:

  • YouTube and Universal Music Group are partnering to launch VEVO, a new site devoted entirely to online music videos. UMG will provide its entire catalogue of premium music content to the site, and artist- and user-generated content using UMG will continue to be hosted by YouTube.

  • Showtime is streaming this Saturday's mixed martial arts matchup between Frank Shamrock and Nick Diaz, with the help of BitGravity.

And in today's News Bits, the Fred YouTube Channel -- starring Fred Figglehorn, a fictional character invented by a fifteen-year-old from Nebraska -- has become the first YouTube channel to surpass 1 million subscribers.
