SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Xilinx, Inc., (Nasdaq: XLNX - News) today announced that Italtel, a Milan based leading provider of new-generation integrated multi-service networks, selected the industry's leading Platform FPGA family, the Xilinx® Virtex-II(TM) Series, to satisfy the cost and time- to-market requirements of its new generation iMSS (Italtel Multi Service Solution) Public Switching System.Italtel selected Xilinx FPGAs over a traditional ASIC because of its versatility and cost effectiveness. By using Xilinx programmable chips, instead of an ASIC, Italtel maintains a flexible and scalable solution."Public switching is developing in many different ways throughout international territories," said Alberto Biancalana, head of Hardware Platforms at Italtel, Milan. "Xilinx FPGAs were critical in our ability to deliver a cost-effective flexible solution, capable of addressing unique geographic requirements."Xilinx Inc.Italtel SpA
