AUSTIN, Texas -- Cicada Semiconductor Corporation, the leading developer of DSP and mixed-signal integrated circuits (ICs) that enable broadband communications within Local, Wide, and Storage Area Networks, and SwitchCore AB (OM: SCOR), a leading worldwide developer of IC devices for network equipment manufacturers and suppliers, today announced a 16-port Gigabit Ethernet Workgroup Switch Reference Design to be used by equipment designers for desktop and workgroup applications in the enterprise.

The CXE-RDK2010 is a compact, cost-optimized design using Cicada's low power SimpliPHY (TM) 8204 Gigabit Ethernet over copper transceivers, and SwitchCore's CXE-2010 workgroup switch chip. The reference design addresses the need for less power and space in the economical enterprise and desktop markets. Now, system developers will be able to deploy cost-effective 16-port switches in less space than current systems incorporating eight or fewer ports, allowing for twice the connections while saving power and space. The RDK-2010 platform is already tested and qualified, and delivered with complete documentation, software, schematics, and application support for network system designers to minimize their design cycle and achieve faster time to market. "As the leaders in our respective communications markets, Cicada and SwitchCore are natural partners for delivering the world's lowest power, highest density platform for 16 ports of Gigabit Ethernet," says Nick van Bavel, CEO of Cicada Semiconductor. "Cicada's SimpliPHY is by far the highest performing PHY in the industry in terms of robustness, interoperability, and reach under real-world cabling environments; and SwitchCore's switch supports full, non-blocking 32Gb of switched bandwidth. Together, we are offering the first true off-the-shelf solution that will enable widespread deployment of Gigabit Ethernet." Cicada Semiconductor Inc. SwitchCore AB
