WASHINGTON -- As news coverage of the war in Iraq unfolds, critical live news feeds from Washington, D.C., such as reports from the White House, Capitol Hill and Pentagon, are being transmitted faster and more reliably over the fiber based, broadband solution of Net Insight (SX: NET I B), a leading provider of real-time broadband infrastructure technology. Using Net Insight's Nimbra platform, both live and non-live news feeds are transmitted using an optical fiber network in lieu of satellite. Net Insight's fiber platform can send FTP file content along with uncompressed video at 270Mbps with a significant increase in QoS when compared with satellite. The network has unsurpassed reliability as redundant paths avoid signal loss. The picture restores in 50 milliseconds, which is faster than can be seen by the human eye, even if the fiber is cut. The Nimbra platform also allows broadcasters to do real-time editing and production over the network. This feature allows them to incorporate the news-feed content more quickly into their newscasts and scheduled programs. The fiber platform also allows broadcasters a higher level of security as compared to satellite since content cannot be compromised over a dedicated fiber line. Further, the Net Insight Nimbra platform also provides significantly lower capital and operating costs when compared to satellite. "Use of our Nimbra switching equipment in such critical broadcasts is proof of the highest quality and reliability of our product," said Tomas Duffy, CEO at Net Insight. "It's imperative that broadcasters be able to deliver real-time coverage of these important and extremely newsworthy events as they unfold." Net Insight AB
