GLASGOW, U.K. -- NeoPhotonics today announced here at ECOC 2005 the availability of RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substance) compliant optical transceivers for volume shipment before the end of 2005. The European Parliament RoHS Directive aims to protect human health and the environment through the restricted use of certain hazardous substances. The directive states that from 1st July 2006 lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and polybrominated diphenyl ether will be banned from new electrical and electronic equipment.

NeoPhotonics is exhibiting its optical transceiver product line at stand 225 in the Scottish Exhibition Conference Centre (SECC) through September 28th.

"NeoPhotonics is committed to business practices that protect the environment," said Tim Jenks, CEO of NeoPhotonics. "Our Shenzhen facility has been ISO-14001 certified since May of 2004 and environmental management is an important element of our overall quality management system."

"Due to environmental concerns, the need for lead-free solutions in electronic components and systems is receiving increasing attention within the semiconductor and electronics industries," said Zhangyong Huang, President of NeoPhotonics China. "NeoPhotonics is the first leading optical module manufacturer to make a fully focused effort towards RoHS compliant product research and development."
