NEC Chooses Ikanos Chips

NEC is using Ikanos's SmartLeap 8100 for broadband access concentrators and the CleverConnect 150 for customer premises gear

FREMONT, Calif. -- Ikanos Communications, developer of Smart Silicon For Profitable Broadband(tm), today announced that NEC Corporation of Japan has adopted its family of programmable chipsets to build access concentrators and Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) that will extend fiber-like bandwidth to customers in multi-dwelling buildings. The new products will employ ITU-T G.993.1 based Ethernet over Very High Bit Rate Digital Subscriber Line Discrete Multi-Tone (VDSL-DMT) to deliver multiple, high-bandwidth services over the existing copper infrastructure. NEC, a leading provider of broadband network solutions in Japan, is using Ikanos' SmartLeap(tm) 8100 for Broadband Access Concentrators and the CleverConnect(tm) 150 for Customer Premise Equipment to build its new products.
