My Little Pony on the Go-Boom

9:10 AM -- Authorities in the Sunshine State are getting serious about careless kids. Today's New York Times carries the following AP item:

Authorities blew up a stuffed pony -- determined to be a ''suspicious device'' -- after it was found outside a central Florida school. The Orange County Sheriff's Office reported that the toy was found near the Waterbridge Elementary School Tuesday morning.

No one was allowed in or out of the building while bomb disposal experts destroyed the stuffed animal. It was ultimately deemed ''non-threatening.''

    No injuries were reported.
I can remember simpler, yet happier, times, when grade schools had lost-and-founds. Injuries were pretty much unheard of.

re: My Little Pony on the Go-Boom

So if you are keeping score at home -- terrorists win, stuffed pony loses. But the maker of the stuffed pony wins. So does the company that makes the stuff the cops used to blow up the stuffed pony. So it's a win-lose-win-win.

With book-burning a distinct possibility in the near future, northcentral Florida should keep the wee ones properly entertained for some time.

By the way, this stuffed-pony-phobic school uses a dolphin in its logo, even though it isn't within 50 miles of a body of water that might actually contain a dolphin. Except for a couple of holding tanks at Seaworld.

And the kids probably thought it was way cool. Watch for copy-cat ponies.
