SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J. -- Multiplex, Inc. announced the introduction of a short-reach transponder. The MTP-SR0 is the latest edition to the MTP family of 10 gigabits-per-second (Gb/s) transponders. It is designed for applications of up to two kilometers. The MTP-SR0 is based on Multiplex's advanced EML (electro-absorption modulated laser) technology, with the source laser operating at 1310nm. It offers significant advantages over 1310 nm distributed feedback (DFB) lasers, most notably superior Clear-EML Eye performance. The receiver portion is based on Multiplex's highly integrated RX192L, which gives the MTP-SR0 extremely high sensitivity. In spite of its outstanding performance, the MTP-SR0 is competitively priced when compared to less technologically advanced transponders. Multiplex currently offers a full product suite of high-performance transponders for current and next-generation optical networks that includes 1310 and 1550 nm EML-based units that cover all short and intermediate distances up to 40km; OC-192 (9.953 Gb/s), 10-gig Ethernet (10.3 Gb/s) and Forward Error Correction (10.7 Gb/s) applications, as well as a multi-rate unit that is compatible with all three of these data rates; and a choice of 200- and 300-pin packages. The inclusion of a true, short-reach transponder further bolsters Multiplex's already broad portfolio to ensure that it effectively meets the individualized needs of its customers.
