SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J. -- Multiplex, Inc. announced the introduction of a new, small-form-factor 300-pin transponder. The MTP203 is compliant with the Multi Source Agreement (MSA) that governs 300-pin transponders. It measures 2.2” x 3” x 0.55”. The MTP203 can be used as a transmission link of up to 40 kilometers or more for short- and intermediate-reach applications.
The MTP203 is configured with Multiplex’s own base components: An EML (electro-absorption modulated laser) source laser and PIN-based receiver (with integrated limiting amplifier), plus MUX/DeMUX components. Like its first generation transponders, Multiplex offers variations of the MTP203 to cover the entire spectrum of 10Gb/s applications (OC-192, 10-gig Ethernet and forward-error-correction). The EML source laser is available in 1310 and 1550nm versions.
Due to the high-performance nature of Multiplex’s EML and receiver, the MTP203 offers extremely high sensitivity (typically –16.5dBM at a bit-error-rate of 1 x 10-12, which exceeds the MSA’s specs), “Clear EML Eye” advantage and outstanding jitter performance. Multiplex is currently sampling the MTP203, with volume production slated for the fourth quarter of 2002.
