PARIS and AMSTERDAM -- During the IBC exhibition this week, Thomson (Euronext 18453; NYSE; TMS) will demonstrate its end-to-end Mobile TV solutions which includes the Open Mobile Alliance’s new standard for Electronic Service Guide and SIM card embedded content security, known as OMA BCAST SmartCard Profile. Thomson has already passed successful tests for its OMA BCAST solutions at the Broadcast Mobile Convergence forum earlier this year and has launched one of the first packaged solutions available on the market.

The OMA BCAST SmartCard Profile is a new international standard launched by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), a consortium of mobile operators and solution providers, whose goal is to provide a common base for global interoperability of all mobile services. By integrating security software into the SIM card itself, the OMA BCAST SmartCard Profile further enables the business model and accelerates service launch by strengthening overall content protection while enabling broadcast mobile TV using any standard compliant handset.

Thomson’s OMA BCAST solution features a Thomson DVB-H Mobile TV encoder with scrambling capabilities and the SmartVision™ service platform generating and broadcasting an OMA BCAST Electronic Service Guide (ESG). A key differentiator of Thomson’s DVB-H OMA BCAST solution is its interoperability with different service and content protection systems including Irdeto, Nagravision and Viaccess.

"The OMA BCAST SmartCard Profile is Mobile Operators’ preferred standard for Mobile TV service and content protection, as it places all the rights management in the SIM card to lower the overall price of mobile TV terminals," said Frédéric Caussarieu, General Manager of Thomson’s network software business. "This demonstration of our compliance with OMA BCAST Smart Card Profile comes in addition to our recent launch of OMA BCAST solutions."
