Ericsson awarded contract to expand Viettel's GSM network in Vietnam

STOCKHOLM -- Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERICY) has signed a GSM network expansion contract with Viettel, the fastest growing mobile network operator in Vietnam, to extend its coverage in rural areas of Vietnam and increase its capacity in large metropolitan areas of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Danang.

Under the contract, Ericsson will provide Viettel with new core network nodes, radio base stations, and microwave transmission equipment. It also includes upgrades and expansions of functionality in the service layer such as charging and voicemail, as well as project management, integration and implementation services.

This expansion will further enhance Viettel's network coverage, capacity and performance and support the operator to strengthen its competitive position in the Vietnamese mobile market.
