CALABASAS HILLS, Calif. -- Lynx Photonic Networks (www.LynxPN.com), the leading photonic switch company, has introduced an intelligent all-optical protection switch that protects long-haul wavelength services for carriers and service providers. The versatile, rugged new LightLEADER( 3710, which provides 1+1 or 1:1 protection for DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) systems at the optical physical level, debuted at the recent SUPERCOMM trade show, where it was demonstrated on a shaker table to prove its robustness and reliability.

A pair of plug-and-play LL-3710 protection switches - one at each end - is very cost effective and superior to traditional optical-electric-optical solutions. The LL-3710 supports licensable upgrades, allowing operators to minimize their initial deployment cost and "pay as they grow" through non-traffic-affecting field upgrades. The switch can be used for link, equipment or tributary protection and configured to work either 1+1 (unidirectional or bi-directional) or 1:1 with extra traffic support to optimize resource utilization. Moreover, it can operate either in master-slave or autonomous mode.

The LL-3710 provides fast protection switching for increased link availability; carries traffic during power failure; assures break-before-make connectivity, to avoid misconnections; and is shipped with either AC or optional dual-feed -48 volt DC power supplies.
