Gabriel has more than 15 years’ experience as a mobile network analyst. Prior to joining Heavy Reading, he was Chief Analyst for Light Reading’s Insider research service; before that, he was editor of IP Wireline and Wireless Week at London's Euromoney Institutional Investor.

He’s considered one of the thought leaders for AI & Analytics in the telecom industries.

Günther Ottendorfer started his international career in the telecommunication sector 25 years ago. From 1987 to 1992 the Austrian-born Günther Ottendorfer studied Computer Science at the Technical University of Vienna. In 1996 he became a founding member of mobile operator max.mobil in Austria. He gained considerable management experience as COO and CTO for T-Mobile Austria, as CTO for T-Mobile Germany and as European Technology Director at Group level for T-Mobile International.

In 2011 he became Managing Director Networks at Optus Singtel, Australia’s second largest telecommunications provider with Mobile, Fixed, Cable and Satelitte networks. In addition, he spearheaded the introduction of LTE which Optus pioneered as one of the first operators globally.

In September 2013 Günther Ottendorfer joined Telekom Austria Group as Group Chief Technology Officer (CTIO) responsible for Network and IT in 8 countries. At Telekom Austria he was also Chairman/Vice-Chairman of the OpCo Boards and M2M subsidiary. He was driving LTE rollout and especially NFV (Network Function Virtualization) as one of the first operators in the World.

In July 2015 he joined Sprint USA as COO Technology responsible for Network, IT and Device and Product Development and later also Digital Transformation. Günther led a very successful Network re-vamp via a Densification and Optimization Strategy leveraging Sprint’s high-band Spectrum. Also a NFV push to modernize for 5G and other innovations like Small Cells, Magic BOX (even flying) were driven by him and his team.

Günther joined Ooredoo in January 2019 to drive especially the Network Modernization, the 5G roadmap, IT Transformation and the Journey to 2022. The Amir Cup 2019 was an excellent first showcase for Radio Modernization and Stadium Coverage/ Quality and for 5G Usecases – followed by successful big events with the World Athletics and the FIFA Club Worldcup 2019.
