Laser Guru Named DMG CTO

DMG Technologies names Dr. Toshi Makino, former Nortel DFB laser guru, as chief technology officer, heading new product design group

INDUSTRY, Calif. -- DMG Technologies, a manufacturer of optical subassemblies used in telecomm, datacomm, CATV, and instrumentation systems, today announced the appointment of Dr. Toshi Makino as Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Makino is well known for his design prowess and engineering leadership in microwave and photonics technologies and, especially, semiconductor lasers with firms such as Nortel, Fujitsu, Furukawa, and Matsushita. He holds more than 50 patents and has written nearly 200 journal articles and conference papers.

As such, his arrival as Chief Technology Officer at DMG heralds a giant technical step forward for the company. His presence and contributions will stimulate the company’s vision as he becomes responsible for corporate technology and its direction and strategy. In addition, he will be the prime mover for our new product design group."

Dr. Makino received the B. E., M. E., and Ph. D. degrees in electronics engineering from Kyoto University, Japan. He has followed his educational pursuits with a long and distinguished career in design and management at firms such as Matsushita Electric & Industrial, Bell-Northern Research (now Nortel Networks), Furukawa Electric, Nortel Networks, Fujitsu Compound Semiconductor, and QDI. Besides the numerous patents and papers, Dr. Makino also has written two book chapters and is an IEEE fellow. In addition, he has provided peer review for many technical journals and has been a committee member and session chair for numerous international conferences.
