MONTREAL -- Kontron Communications Inc., the wholly-owned operating company of Kontron Embedded Computers, today announced the launch of the Xtreamlink family of CompactPCI Packet-Switched Backplane platform solutions based on the highly anticipated PICMG 2.16 specification, ratified by the PICMG executive committee only yesterday. As a PICMG member, Kontron now offers a whole new spectrum of platforms that exploit both the robustness of CompactPCI and the growing dominance of IP and Ethernet for next-generation network applications in the telecommunications and Internet infrastructure markets. "From entry-level development platforms to carrier-class high availability platforms, Kontron Communications possesses the innovative and flexible building-blocks for developers to accelerate critical, time-to-market OEM solutions," said Sylvie Dufour, director, product management at Kontron Communications. "We're witnessing a rise in demand for, not only overall systems reliability, but high performance Ethernet links. Consequently, Kontron Xtreamlink system solutions are well-suited for any number of applications such as clustering, server farms, cellular base stations, high end security, and core infrastructure devices."
