SUNNYVALE, CA -- Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:JNPR), a leading provider of next-generation IP infrastructure systems, today announced the expansion of its global sales, services, and support capabilities into India with the opening of an office in New Delhi. Operating as Juniper Networks India Private Ltd., the new office is the sixth Juniper Networks office in the Asia-Pacific region.

Juniper Networks was founded in 1996 by Pradeep Sindhu, along with two other industry-known founders, Dennis Ferguson and Bjorn Liencres, in response to the enormous optical bandwidth explosion in the world's Internet service providers' core infrastructure. Juniper Networks converts optical bandwidth into scalable, differentiable IP services using integrated ASICs for packet based forwarding and JUNOS routing software to meet the requirements for operations and control in the world's largest networks. The multi-gigabit M-series Internet backbone routers deliver Internet-based traffic up to ten times faster than other products on the market. The M160 router, introduced in March 2000, was the first router to deliver 10 Gbps at full speed. Juniper Networks global expansion coincides with very high growth in the multi-gigabit router market. According to Dataquest, this market worldwide is valued at $810.3 million USD in 1999 and forecasted to climb to $8.2 billion USD by 2003 at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 78.6 percent.
