TOKYO -- The University of Tsukuba has selected Nortel Networks [NYSE/TSE: NT] to build what is expected to be the first university optical network in Japan based on dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM). Construction and testing are already underway, with network operations scheduled to begin in September. "We pioneered the development of the Metro Optical market, and now we're applying those same, leading-edge solutions to Japan's first, on-campus DWDM optical network," said John Giamatteo, president, Nortel Networks Japan. "This network will position the University of Tsukuba to offer its students and faculty a significantly more efficient, more responsive Internet experience."Nortel Networks Corp.
