MILLERSVILLE, Md. -- Gould Fiber Optics, a leading international provider of passive fiber optic components and manufacturer of advanced integrated optic solutions for the telecommunications industry, announces the formulation of the Advanced Components development team under the direction of Saeed Pilevar, PhD.

Dr. Pilevar received a Masters of Science in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in opto-electronics in 1986 and 1992 respectively. From 1992-1997, he was a Research Scientist at the University of Maryland, College Park where he worked on fiber optic evanescent wave fluorosensors and tapered fiber based near-field scanning optical microscopy. From 1997-1998, Dr. Pilevar was with 3M Bragg Grating Technologies, Connecticut, USA where he was engaged in the design and development of fiber Bragg gratings and their related technologies. In 1998, he joined the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he was responsible for the development of a high resolution, miniaturized chemical-bio sensor device with various sensing elements such as tapered fiber, Bragg gratings, and planar waveguides.
