HOUSTON and SAN DIEGO -- GigX Communications has deployed the GigaMux Metro DWDM from Sorrento Networks (Nasdaq:FIBR - news) in its 2.5 Gbps (gigabit per second) networks in Houston and Austin, Texas, and will deploy additional GigaMux platforms as it expands to a 10Gbps (OC-192) network. GigaMux is a dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical transport system that provides reliable, multi-protocol transmission on up to 64 wavelengths. "GigX Communications validates the flexibility and cost effectiveness of the GigaMux DWDM platform for both metro and regional optical networking applications," said Jim Dixon, president and chief operating officer of Sorrento Networks Corporation. "GigaMux was conceived for the metro market where cost performance and flexibility are paramount.
