SINGAPORE and TOKYO -- Fujitsu Limited and C2C Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (SingTel), today announced that Fujitsu has been awarded a contract to supply the backhaul portion of C2C's ultra long haul, high-capacity submarine cable network connecting major cities in the Asian region. Under the terms of the contract, which was signed today in Singapore, Fujitsu will deploy its FLASHWAVE OADX (*1) dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) system - the world's highest capacity commercial DWDM system, capable of transmitting 1.76 terabits per second - FLASH2400 ADX (*2) next-generation SDH/ SONET transport system, and NETSMART (*3) advanced network management system.Seeking to tap into increasing market demand for bandwidth arising from rapidly growing Internet use in the region, C2C is currently building a fully redundant, high-capacity pan-Asian cable network of approximately 17,000 km, which will link Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Singapore and China. The backhaul part of the network to be supplied by Fujitsu refers to the portion from the cable landing stations to the carrier hotels. "We are very pleased that C2C has chosen Fujitsu's advanced DWDM and SDH equipment for its ambitious pan-Asian cable network," said Kazuo Murano, senior vice president of Fujitsu Limited and group president of Fujitsu's Networks Business Group. "We have developed the FLASHWAVE OADX as a flagship next- generation optical transport product for the global marketplace, and this marks the first order in the Asia Pacific region, outside Japan. We believe our selection for this project reflects not only the technical excellence of our products but also the close relationship we have enjoyed as a supplier to C2C's parent company, SingTel, for more than 20 years, as well as the strong support we - in concert with our subsidiary companies like Singapore-based Fujitsu Asia Pte. Ltd. - are able to provide throughout the Asia Pacific region." Fujitsu Ltd.
