Foundry Loses CTO to F5

Karl Triebes, CTO and VP of engineering at Foundry Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: FDRY), has joined testing titan F5 Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: FFIV), people close to both companies say.

Triebes, one of the switch maker's earliest employees, is en route from Silicon Valley, where Foundry is located, to Seattle, where F5 is, and couldn't be reached for comment. His departure was announced to Foundry employees late last month, spokeswoman Jill Shanks says.

Triebes's primary duties at Foundry are now in the hands of John Burger, VP of engineering.

re: Foundry Loses CTO to F5 6 months later, F5 could not be a hotter company with revenues soaring through roof. Meanwhile Foundry stock is getting pushed toward their multi-year lows again. Seems like the fear of bad sales/earnings and lack of growth is killing the FDRY stock.
Can anyone still there give us an update?
Will BJ ever let go of his grip of this company?
Why is it struggling while all of its competitors are seemingly growing much faster?
Why is sales stuck in the 100 mil range?
Is it winning deals against competitors?
Why are Foundry mgmt in complete denial of their problems over the last year?
Why wouldn't BJ just give into Juniper's overtures?
What's going on within the company?

re: Foundry Loses CTO to F5 The CTO was a non issue, as was the West. VP of sales. BJ does not carry on FDRY's payroll those that do not and cannot carry their own weight.
Bottom line BJ will always be the CTO after Earl Ferguson of course, may he rest in peace.

BS. The only people BJ does not carry on his payroll are those that can think for themselves and do not kiss BJ's posterior.

BJ's inner circle is getting smaller and smaller. The emperior has no clothes and will soon be overthrown.

re: Foundry Loses CTO to F5 Lipoed,
You never cease to amaze me. You still defend the village idiot when it is obvious very few competent people in Silly Valley share your obviously biased appraisal of BJ. I worked there and can tell you from experience, he is a loose cannon. Contrary to your statement, the people still at Foundry are the ones who can't get a job somewhere else...

re: Foundry Loses CTO to F5 Au Contraire,

Many of the people at FDRY can get jobs elsewhere but were seduced by the big option grants that they gave out (now underwater). Karl leaving is probaby a big deal because Jeff, Earl(R.I.P.) and most of the early tech guys are gone. The story is incorrect in that Karl was not an early guy, he came much, much later.

re: Foundry Loses CTO to F5 If their options are under water, then why are thye still there. I walked away from a few hundred thousand dollars in options, if I had stayed until they vested and I have no regrets (made much more at Cisco). But the stress working under a dictator (BJ) wasn't worth it. My immdediate manager was a good guy but as everyyone knows, at Foundry the managers there are puppets and only dance to BJ's tune...

re: Foundry Loses CTO to F5 I worked there from 98 through 01. I don't know about the rest of you but my loyalty comes from the fact BJ made me millions so I never have to work again. I mean come on, I am only speaking for myself and how I was treated. Yeah he can be a loose cannon. But is there really anyone out there that could have done what he did, mostly with his own money?
So he gives lousy conference calls. Does anyone in the company put in anymore hours a week than Bobby Johnson. Its his company, he runs it his way. sometimes it works great sometimes he pisses off people. Bottom line Fdry will survive and make money.

re: Foundry Loses CTO to F5 Iipoed,

The second smartest leaders in the world are the ones who pulled themselves up by their bootstraps and know how to take charge to get things done. I applaud BJ for being this type of leader.

HOWEVER, the smartest leaders in the world know that they can't possibly do everything or know everything so they surround themselves with people smarter than they are and keep them focused on a common goal.

The fact of the matter is that until BJ goes, fdry will continue to be the third horse in a two horse race. Building a better widget than the competition is NOT a business plan for survival in this economy. Some would argue that fdry lost their edge many years ago.

Letting the Procket deal slip through his fingers is the biggest indictment of his lack of leadership to date.
