FlexLight Enters Russian Optical Access Market

LONDON -- FlexLight Networks™, the optical network access pioneer delivering the industry’s first Gigabit Passive Optical Networking (GPON) solution for the first mile, today announced that it has been awarded formal certification to import its optical access equipment into Russia for use over the country’s national telecommunications network.

Russia remains the largest telecoms market in the East and Central Europe region, worth a total of US$4.4bn at the end of 1999. Official telecoms certification represents an important milestone, not only for FlexLight, but for Russian service providers who are demanding optical access for delivering broadband services for Fibre to the Building (FTTB) applications using GPON.

FlexLight’s proposed network facilitates the transmission of all existing types of services (Voice , Video and Data) as well as those planned for the future, from the main Central Office of the Service Providers to as close as possible to the end user.
