MORRISVILLE, N.C. -- Tekelec (Nasdaq:TKLC), a leading developer of telecommunications products for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, today announced that Fred Lax, president and chief executive officer, has resigned effective January 1, 2006. Tekelec has initiated a search for Mr. Lax's successor.

"When Tekelec completes the transition of its corporate headquarters to North Carolina and closes its California office at the end of 2005, I will not move with the Company," Mr. Lax said. "I have decided, for personal reasons, to stay in California and pursue other opportunities. I have very much enjoyed the past five years with Tekelec and am proud of the Company's accomplishments. I believe Tekelec is well positioned as a market leader in signaling and continues to strengthen its position globally in next-generation switching and communication software solutions."

"I want to thank Fred for the leadership and guidance he has provided Tekelec over the past five years," said Jean-Claude Asscher, Tekelec's Chairman. "He has overseen Tekelec as it has broadened its telecommunications product portfolio, strengthened its competitive position and expanded its global presence. We appreciate Fred's commitment to assist the Company during the transition process and wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
