SAN JOSE, Calif. -- NexTone Communications(R), the leader in intelligent and scalable session management solutions that extend the reach and quality of VoIP and other digital media, today announced that Hipcom, a provider of high-quality hosted IP telephony solutions in Europe, has deployed the NexTone Multiprotocol Session Controller (MSC) to support its VoIP service offering.

Hipcom's hosted services are sold through a network of more than 20 reseller channel partners in the UK. With its outsourced IP network model, Hipcom enables carriers, ISPs, and voice and data integrators to provide feature-rich enterprise IP telephony services to new and existing customers.

Hipcom selected the NexTone MSC because it was the only platform that met the company's business and network challenges. The NexTone MSC supports both Class 4 and Class 5 call routing, and is interoperability-tested with the Broadsoft(R) BroadWorks VoIP application server. Hipcom's initial network deployment of the NexTone MSC included the implementation and integration of Broadsoft's platform. The extensive functionality within the NexTone MSC also has enabled Hipcom to deploy SIP trunking -- a new service for its reseller partners. The NexTone MSC's SIP trunking capability lets Hipcom route traditional TDM voice minutes over IP, so its partners can now take advantage of VoIP efficiently and very cost effectively.Hipcom also participates in NexTone University to train its engineers in real-time IP session management, which is critical for carriers and enterprises to interconnect VoIP, wireless, and IP Multimedia Subsystems(IMS) networks in the future. The synergy of NexTone technology and NexTone University enables Hipcom's customers to rapidly turn up new services with the highest levels of service reliability and quality.

"Hipcom needed a carrier-grade platform that met our demands for Broadsoft interoperability and carrier interoperability of both Class4 and Class 5 routing. We evaluated competing session border controller solutions and found that no other vendor hit the mark. However, the NexTone MSC met our requirements head on, and its sales and engineering teams were quick to respond to any issues," said Lee Crowe, commercial director at Hipcom. "NexTone's experience on the carrier side is also very strong, and Hipcom received positive feedback from NexTone's customers. In addition, the NexTone MSC's strength on SIP trunking has allowed us to enter the SIP business trunking market very competitively. We view the NexTone team as a long-term partner and value the fact that it also provides opportunities like NexTone University."
