DALLAS -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE:TXN) today unveiled its latest Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) gateway solution, a comprehensive software and silicon platform based on TI's digital signal processing (DSP) technology and award-winning Telogy Software(r). Designed for small office/home office (SOHO) and small to medium enterprise (SME) customer premises applications, TI's newest solution delivers multiples of eight low-bit rate or 16 pulse code modulation (PCM) telephony channels. This latest offering expands the industry's widest portfolio of VoIP products deployed worldwide, with solutions ranging from one telephony channel to OC-3 (2,016) telephony channels. TI's new TNETV2510, based on the TMS320C55x(tm) DSP, delivers high-performance voice processing and supports a broad range of functionality for customer premises equipment (CPE) gateway applications. Toll quality voice is achieved through a full implementation of features that include echo cancellation, voice playout software with adaptive jitter buffering, tone detection/generation, voice activity detection, and low-bit rate and/or PCM vocoders. The TNETV2510 also supports T.38 fax relay, and can be combined with an external microprocessor running TI's Telogy Software for packet processing and host applications. Furthermore, the solution leverages low-cost external SDRAM, allowing scaling of features and applications to support specific market requirements while minimizing costs. "This latest offering makes it clear to us that TI has the most comprehensive range of VoIP technology offerings in the business," said Cheng Chen, CEO of Quintum Technologies, a longstanding customer of TI's. "TI's approach of providing high-performance DSP and VoIP software solutions provides Quintum with the key elements for continued growth of our products, and further enables us to serve the CPE segment of the market with competitive offerings." TI's expansive portfolio of VoIP gateway solutions offers a superior combination of power, area per channel, cost and feature set advantages to equipment manufacturers, and provides two optimized architectures for CPE applications - highly integrated DSP/RISC devices and discrete DSP voice processing/host processing solutions. TI's TNETV2510 fully integrates the advanced, low power features of the TMS320C55x DSP with TI's field-proven Telogy Software. This pre-integration of software significantly reduces the investment manufacturers must make in order to offer standard features on their products and enables them to focus resources on developing unique, differentiating applications. "As the first in a series of exciting new VoIP gateway solutions from TI, the TNETV2510 addresses a specific channel density and feature complement point for discrete DSP-based solutions, which is well suited for customers requiring either voice add-on modules for data products or an expansion of their existing VoIP solutions," said Debbie Greenstreet, product management director, TI's VoIP Business Unit. "This solution was optimally architected to meet the requirements of the price-sensitive, feature-rich, high volume CPE gateway application space and offers our customers more functionality and increased end-product scalability to better serve this segment of the market."
