Siemens Boosts DT Broadband

MUNICH -- Siemens IC Networks will provide Deutsche Telekom AG with solutions allowing it to expand its offer for rapid internet access. Deutsche Telekom has thus opted for IC Networks a second time, following the great success of the T-DSL rollout in Germany, and now for the introduction of the symmetrical variant SDSL (Symmetrical DSL). Using SDSL, both companies and end customers, will be able to transmit large amounts of data - up to 2 Mbit/s - across a regular telephone line. The new symmetrical T-DSL-Business offer from Deutsche Telekom is aimed mainly at SMEs such as media companies or engineering departments which have to transmit large data streams. The new technology will speed this up considerably and make it more cost-effective. "We are glad to be able to help Deutsche Telekom add a new profitable service to its range", says Thomas Ganswindt, Group President of Siemens IC Networks. The SDSL solution from IC Networks is also of particular interest to Deutsche Telekom because it allows the existing network to be upgraded without incurring high additional costs. All that is involved is simply inserting new SDSL cards into the Siemens' DSLAMs (DSL Access Multiplexer) already installed many times over in the exchanges.
