Photon releases NanoModeScan tool to measure M-squared and other beam propagation characteristics of lasers

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Photon, a leading optical test and measurement equipment firm, announces the release of the NanoModeScan, a new tool to measure M-squared and other beam propagation characteristics of lasers. M-squared is a key parameter determining laser quality and performance, yet is often difficult to measure as the measurement process is unique to each laser type, and can be time consuming. Often, multiple tools are required to measure different laser types. It can be time consuming to construct different test set-ups, which is detrimental to efficient laser production. This also adds production cost, both in training and in equipment.

The Photon NanoModeScan allows for a broad range of lasers with different wavelengths, different beam powers, and different laser pulse frequencies to be measured with a single measurement tool. A complete M-squared measurement can be generated in seconds. The NanoModeScan process is compliant with ISO Standard 11146. The tool employs Photon’s NanoScan technology, proven to generate the most accurate and highest resolution beam measurements in commercially available equipment.

The system includes a Photon NanoScan profiling tool mounted on a motorized computer controlled stage and a software package that simplifies the process and displays the data for production environments.
