ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Performance Technologies (Nasdaq NM: PTIX), a leading developer of integrated systems, platforms, components and software, today introduced the MG6000 Media Gateway Blade and the complementary NexusWare(TM) MG software suite.

Having invested billions of dollars in legacy, circuit-switched networks, carriers around the world are seeking ways to interwork them with flourishing VoIP wireless and wireline networks. According to The Yankee Group, VoIP subscribers are expected to grow to 17.5 million in United States households alone by the end of 2008, and the Telecommunications Industry Association predicts U.S. spending on wireless communications will grow by nine percent in 2005. The media gateway represents one of the fastest growing functions for enabling wireless and wireline VoIP convergence.

Performance Technologies’ MG6000 Media Gateway is the industry’s highest density T1/E1 media gateway in blade form. It combines the company’s world-class media and voice processing, network access and signaling components to offer a turnkey solution for media gateway functionality. Designed to be a drop-in solution, the MG6000 can be used in a variety of carrier-grade applications including IMS media gateways, access gateways, Class 5 replacement switches, media servers and wireless interworking functions.

The complementary NexusWare MG software delivers complete media gateway, media server and signaling gateway capabilities on the MG6000 hardware platform. NexusWare MG builds upon the capacity provided by the company’s Linux-based NexusWare Core development environment by integrating Q.931, SIP, MGCP and H.248 signaling stacks, as well as the media processing functionality found within the company’s field-proven UniPorte™ Media and Voice Processing Software.

“With the release of the MG6000, Performance Technologies is continuing on its commitment to develop high availability platforms to meet demanding convergence needs. The MG6000 is part of our Advanced Managed Platform strategy, and it provides our customers with a highly integrated solution that allows them to focus on their own value-add applications,” said Tim Resker, media and voice processing product manager for Performance Technologies. “We hope to further penetrate the fast-growing media gateway market by not only providing our OEM customers with key components, but fully integrated platforms as well.”
