ANDOVER, Mass. -- NetTest, a leading worldwide provider of testing, monitoring, management and optical component solutions for advanced and converged networks, today announced that PDAs (personal digital assistants) can be used for remote network monitoring with NetTest's metroWATCH optical surveillance system. metroWATCH is the industry's first standalone system that automatically monitors the status of metropolitan optical networks of all sizes, regardless of in-house fiber optic expertise. Using a PDA with metroWATCH will further enable network managers to have "anywhere" access to information concerning their metropolitan fiber optic networks. metroWATCH users can use PDAs to request and query optical maps, conduct fiber status test checks, perform remote network assessment and receive alarm notifications automatically, from any connected location. "metroWATCH is a breakthrough service for metro network managers, who have been plagued by the inability of traditional network monitoring tools to alert them when problems arise," said David Coker, vice president of marketing, NetTest. "Now, with metroWATCH's added ability to monitor metro networks with a PDA, network managers are truly free to quickly and easily view the status and condition of their network from anywhere, at any time." NetTest will demonstrate metroWATCH used on a PDA at Networld+Interop Las Vegas 2002, May 7-10 in its booth, #7658. Availability metroWATCH with PDA compatibility is available for immediate delivery.
